Komo-Maki (straw mat wrapping)

Have you seen straw mat is wrapping on pine tree in Japanese garden?

This is called “Komo-Maki”.

“Komo” is straw mat, “Maki” means wapping.

This is counter measure for collect pine tree bugs to take advantage of that bugs habit to spend winter in fallen leaves.

It will burn when spring has come.

It has already installed in “Edo-era”.

Ironically, some research mentioned it collects more than 8 times bugs nemesis, then abolished in some areas recently.
