RELATION BETWEEN BAUM KUCHEN AND HIROSHIMA?

This is name of German cake means “Log cake” in English. The characteristic rings appear when you sliced resemble tree rings.

Hiroshima is the first place sold Baum Kuchen in Japan at Hiroahima Industrial Promotion Hall (later know as “Atomic Bomb Dome”) in 1919.

There was Technical Crafts Exibition of German War Prisoner caught in Ninoshima-Island(Hiroshima) and Karl Juchheim made Baum Kuchen.

Original German Baum Kuchen has strict definition, and Juchheim made an arrange (i.e reduce butter volume) to fit Japanese’s taste.

After Armistice of 11 November 1918, He choosed to stay in Japan and open his cafe, he opend “E-Juchheim” in Yokohama and lose it by earth quake in 1923.

He moved to Kobe to Open “Juchheim” and now it’s most famous Baum Kuchen supply chain in Japan.
